Welcome to this week’s Curbed Comparisons, where we usually look at homes in different areas of the city in a specific price point. This week, we’re taking a look at what we would call “Starter homes,” or houses that won’t need much maintenance, are listed at a reasonable price, and have enough room for a couple or small family. These houses range in price from $52,000 up to $99,000 and they’re located all across the city. Choose which one is your favorite and vote below.

5859 Seneca Street

First up is a recently renovated four-bedroom house north of Gratiot and near I-94. The house is just over 1,400 square feet with a fenced backyard, new windows, new kitchen cabinets and floors, and new bathroom fixtures. It’s a quick drive down Gratiot to Eastern Market and downtown. This one is listed for $69,900.

17180 Wisconsin Street

This 1,400-square foot brick home has also been recently renovated and it’s located in the Bagley neighborhood near Marygrove College. This house has three bedrooms, one and a half baths, a fireplace in the living room, new kitchen cabinets and tiling, and a two-car garage. The listing also states it has newer mechanicals, as well. It’s listing for $99,000.

6842 Brace Street

Here’s a cute little three-bedroom house in Warrendale. This house has been recently updated with new kitchen cabinets and refinished floors. It has one full bath and two bedrooms downstairs, plus a lofty room upstairs. It also has a two-car garage, it’s located near the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and it’s listed for $52,000.

17540 Annchester

This one would take a little more work than the rest, but it could be a fun house. For those looking for a home with character that they might want to renovate a little at a time, this three-bedroom house in the Evergreen neighborhood near Grandmont-Rosedale is a good option. Inside, find a ton of built-ins, pink carpeting, a kitchen that probably should be reconfigured, and plenty of retro charm. It’s located near many shops and restaurants, and it’s close to Old Redford. It’s priced at $80,000.

5742 Buckingham Avenue

And last is this four bedroom, one and a half bath brick home in the northern part of Morningside. Inside, find a new kitchen, a breakfast nook, a handsome fireplace in the living room, a bonus room, and a partially-finished basement. It’s listed for $84,900.
