36 loft apartments coming to the North End

Speaking of the North End, where we’ve seen a lot of real estate activity lately, more apartments are coming closer to Woodward. Crain’s reports that a Birmingham developer, Neal Check, has purchased the 39,000-square-foot building at 40 Hague Street for $1.27 million.

The plan is to convert the building into about 36 “loft-style apartments,” mostly one-bedroom options with some two-bedroom units.

The sale was through O’Connor Real Estate and Real Estate Interests LLC. O’Connor will also run the leasing and property management.

The building is situated a couple blocks north of New Center, and has a fenced parking lot that borders Woodward Avenue. Development in the area has mainly concentrated around the commercial corridor at the intersection of Woodward and Grand Boulevard, although we’ve also seen more apartment building renovation activity happening between New Center and Boston-Edison.

The building conversion will run about $3.2 million and take about 18 months to complete.
