Welcome to this week’s installment of Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent for a certain dollar amount in various Detroit neighborhoods. This week we’re broadening our scope, and looking across 8 Mile at rentals in both Detroit and Ferndale within $100 of today’s price: $1,000.

Ferry Street, Detroit

First we’ll start in Detroit with this one bedroom, one bath apartment in a historic home on Ferry Street. It may not have the most inspired interior, but it’s located on one of the most beautiful streets in the city. It’s near Wayne State, the College for Creative Studies, the DIA, and the Qline. It also has a private deck, A/C, and gated parking. The 700-square-foot apartment is renting for $950 per month.

1769 W Warren Avenue, Detroit

Here’s a newly renovated apartment in Woodbridge. This one is close to Wayne State and Midtown, and has two bedrooms, one bath, and a fenced yard. It allows pets, and the listing makes a compelling argument, “Dogs are permitted on a case-by-case basis rental includes fenced in yard so you can just let your furry friend right out without having to put pants on and take them for a walk!” It’s listed at the top of our range for $1,100 per month.

Ferndale upper flat

Here’s a cute one bedroom, one bath upper flat in Ferndale. This apartment has wood floors and room for storage, and it’s walking distance to downtown Ferndale. Rent is $950 per month, which includes heat.

1598 Leroy Street # 2, Ferndale

A little further out in Ferndale is a two-bedroom upper apartment with the tiniest kitchen we’ve ever seen. This one is recently updated, and coming in at about 800 square feet. Rent is on budget at $1,000, splitting utilities with the unit below.

17130 Birchcrest Drive

At the southern end of the University District in Detroit, here’s a two bedroom, one bath apartment across from the University of Detroit Mercy. It has recently updated finishes, newer appliances, and another tiny kitchen. It’s renting for $975 per month, and has a gated parking lot. It’s close to the shops and restaurants along Livernois, and it’s just a short drive to Ferndale.
