Old and new are celebrated in Detroit’s oldest neighborhood

The Corktown Neighborhood Tour has grown from showcasing the beautiful selection of homes in the neighborhood to adding new developments and businesses. This year’s Corktown tour stops at ten locations, including homes and buildings dating back to the 1840s and early 1900s, and newer locations like Happier Camper and the Corner Ballpark at the old Tiger Stadium.

The tour takes place Sunday, June 3 from 12-5 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Gaelic League where the tour starts, or they can be ordered here.

Perhaps the most interesting stop for long-time Curbed readers might be an old house we featured in 2013 with the headline, “This sad house in Corktown needs a hero or a bulldozer.” The house found its heroes, went through an extensive renovation, and will be open for the tour. To refresh your memory, here’s what it looked like before, compared to its restored beauty.

The Gaelic League will also host a vendor fair that day with a variety of local businesses. Here are a few other homes and locations—historic and new—along the tour.
